Seussical JR. Auditions

Come join us at auditions for our next musical, "Seussical JR"! This show is for ages 4-18. 

Rehearsals will be Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:30 PM-8:30 PM, with performances on September 7th-10th.

Horton the Elephant, the Cat in the Hat and all of your favorite Dr. Seuss characters spring to life onstage in Seussical JR., a fantastical musical extravaganza from Tony-winners, Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty.

Transporting audiences from the Jungle of Nool to the Circus McGurkus, the Cat in the Hat narrates the story of Horton the Elephant, who discovers a speck of dust containing tiny people called the Whos. Horton must protect the Whos from a world of naysayers and dangers, and he must also guard an abandoned egg that's been left in his care by the irresponsible Mayzie La Bird.  Although Horton faces ridicule, danger and a trial, the intrepid Gertrude McFuzz never loses faith in him.  Ultimately, the powers of friendship, loyalty, family and community are challenged and emerge triumphant!

Helpful Information about Auditions:

What is a “Musical Theatre Piece” – This just means a song from a musical that you can display not only your vocal talent in but also your acting abilities! You only need to prepare 1 – 2 minutes and should be sung acapella (without background music, just voice), and is best memorized.

What is a “Monologue and Solo” – This is for if you maybe want to just sing a favorite song not from a musical. A monologue is a theatrical piece or long script that is presented by just 1 person. This is totally acceptable and will NOT make you any less likely for castings. The only thing is that your song selection should be limited to 1 minute maximum and then you should also prepare a 1-minute monologue to show us your acting chops. Again, the song should be sung acapella (without background music, just voice), and both the monologue and the song should be memorized.

When selecting materials for performance there are a couple of key factors to consider. First is that the selection(s) reflect your best attributes as a performer. Maybe you have a good belting range or range in general to show off, do so by selecting a section of a song that can show us this (you don’t have to start at the beginning and just do the first minute, maybe your best portion is the middle 45 seconds…show us that!). But also keep in mind that it is important to know what you’re auditioning for. That being said, while it’s not a requirement, it helps casting directors if your audition piece(s) can fit into the world of the show you’re auditioning for. What do we mean by this? Maybe you want to be cast as Lumiere, do a comedic monologue in a French accent. Want to play Belle? Sing a song that fits a “Princess aesthetic”. Doing simple google searches for monologues and show songs is also very helpful to find material. Make sure to choose something that is age appropriate for the character.

At the end of the day the best audition advice we can give is pick whatever shows off your talent best and most importantly HAVE FUN!!
